Conventional fish oil production involves a very long, industrially demanding process that takes place in many countries. The fish are first caught in the ocean (which itself is polluted by many substances). Next comes purification (refining), a long journey of the crude by steam, deacidification, bleaching, deodorization, transesterification, thickening (by molecular distillation), addition of antioxidants, bottling, and only then the final product is created. These processes cause the loss of some fatty acids or changes in their profiles.

Oil that comes from the controlled environment of an inland river doesn't need all that. It is not refined to eliminate contamination, and the rapid production and processing prevents oxidation that degrades the contents. Therefore, the nutritional properties, taste and ecological impact cannot be compared with ordinary oils.

The production of Viridian oil takes place in the following three stages:
