Description:
Psyllium is the common name used to describe several members of the Plantago plant family, whose seeds are used for many purposes.
Psyllium is a soluble fiber derived from the seeds of the Plantago oval plant, a plant grown mainly in India. Psyllium is used as a dietary supplement and is usually found in the form of husks (bran), granules, capsules or powder. However, you can also consume psyllium fiber through fortified breakfast cereals and baked goods.
Psyllium bran contains soluble and insoluble dietary fiber, mucilage and oils. They have a purifying, emollient and calming effect, also constituting a dressing of the intestinal mucosa. Psyllium husks stimulate and normalize intestinal transit and slow down the absorption of sugar into the blood.
