Description
The true date plant produces dark brown oval fruits, which we call dates. The domestication of this plant already took place in the period between the 3rd and 4th millennium BC. It originates from the region of Mesopotamia and, thanks to man, is now cultivated from North Africa through the Middle East to the right bank of the Indus River. In these areas, dates are an important part of the cuisine. They are often baked in butter or pressed into a bread called "adšu".
Due to drying, dates significantly improve their durability. However, some diners find dry dates too hard, in which case it is advisable to soak the dates in water or milk before consumption. Dates have a strong sweet taste, which can be a substitute for other sweets not only for children.
